A new charity formed to help single mothers hosts a “reception of gratitude” for them in Scarborough this Thursday, March 30.

The One Parent Muslim Foundation, registered last year, wants to help heads of lone parent families, regardless of their religion or background, its community development director Habeeb Alli said last week.

Thursday’s event, starting at 7:30 p.m. at 2180 Lawrence Ave. E. is free. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Speakers include Dianne Ojar Ali, an author and entrepreneur, Sandra Noe, an activist and former single mom, Azfar Ali, a comedian, and Refaat Mohammed, Imam of the Alabrar Muslim Association.

The group offers single parents counselling or financial aid. Its “critical crisis team” can organize and finance funerals and other necessities after the loss of a parent.
