Those looking to stay active through the winter by playing sports can do so by joining a number of indoor leagues across the city. Here’s a list of seven sports offered by the Toronto Sporting Social Club now taking registration.
1. Volleyball: Take the action indoors by playing on the court with co-ed and women’s indoor volleyball offered at school gyms. Or join an indoor beach volleyball league with some games scheduled in January at The Hangar near Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue.
2. Basketball: Plenty of men’s, women’s and co-ed leagues are available to join in either four versus four or the traditional five versus five formats.
3. Soccer: Several venues across the city including at Downsview, Monarch Park and Lamport Stadium provide indoor soccer venues, allowing die-hard fans of "the beautiful game" to play year round.
4. Football: The same applies to football as it does to soccer with the same venues offering both flag and touch football games throughout the week.
5. Ultimate Frisbee: An increasingly popular co-ed sport, ultimate frisbee is a great workout for all participants regardless of age. Both recreational and intermediate leagues are available.
6. Dodgeball: Play that fun schoolyard game in an organized, competitive setting (either recreational or intermediate).
7. Inner tube water polo: definitely one of the more unique sports on offer, co-ed, and played out of the University of Toronto Athletic Centre.
