The Canadian Toy Association hosted its 12th annual Hot Toys for the Holidays event recently.
About two dozen kids, ranging in age from toddlers to about eight, checked out toys, games and puzzles in a room at the Ontario Science Centre.
Here are some of the toys that captured their attention:
1. The Fisher-Price Little People City Skyway lets youngsters send a vehicle down a ramp at the top of the three-foot high structure and use "randomizers" to make it change directions on its journey down. It is recommended for toddlers 16 months and older and the suggested retail price is $49.99.
2. Kids aged two to five will have fun with the LEGO DUPLO Joker Challenge. They can build scenes and help Batman stop The Joker from causing chaos with his out-of-control radar. The suggested retail price is $29.99.
3. The Furreal Friends Get up & Gogo My Walking Pet Pup is a life-like dog that sits, speaks, walks, wags its tail and can even react when other Furreal Friends are near. It is recommended for children aged four and up and the suggested retail price is $69.99.
4. The Minecraft Papercraft Overworld Deluxe Set includes more than 90 pieces so children can create an authentic paper version of a fun game world. Kids can create a different world every time they play. It is recommended for children six and older and the suggested retail price is $39.99.
5 Crayola’s Virtual Design & Drive lets kids bring their car designs to life. First, they design their car in a sketch book, then take a picture of it with a device. After customizing their vehicle, children can perform tricks on a virtual stunt track. The included app is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones, iPod Touch and tablets. It is recommended for ages six and up. There is no suggested retail price.
6. A big hit at the exhibition was the Nerf Combat Creatures Terradrone remote control robot, which allows kids to manoeuvre an all-terrain, six-legged toy while shooting Nerf darts. Recommended for children eight and older. The suggested retail price is $69.99.
7. If you are looking for something for teens, the New York Collection Midtown East Puzzle is recommended for ages 14 and up. The Wrebbit 3D puzzle with 875 pieces includes many well-known landmarks such as the Chrysler and Sony buildings. The suggested retail price is $44.95.
