Kats Takada’s wood carvings of himself and family members will be on exhibit at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre for the next two months.
According to the JCCC website (http://jccc.on.ca) the works are "loaded with stark facts about real-life encounters with physical and mental afflictions, and the poignancy of growing old." For example, one carving – ‘It’s coming’ – is a self-portrait produced when Takada was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The exhibit starts July 2 and continues to Aug. 30 with an opening reception July 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
