Several Toronto business improvement areas were recognized for their work in their communities over the past year.
The fourth annual Toronto BIAs Recognition Awards Dinner was held Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Palais Royale Ballroom.
Organized by the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) and sponsored by the City of Toronto and Metroland Media Toronto, the event honoured BIAs in a variety of categories:

Community Builder Award: Michael Comstock
The Most Connected to Your Community Award, sponsored by Metroland Media Toronto, was given to Bob Kemp from the St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood BIA. Kemp’s nomination was submitted for his work in the community with Bob Kemp Day, which celebrates children in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood and is in its eighth year.
Kemp holds a parade and barbecue in David Crombie Park. This past year more than 800 children and families enjoyed festivities for all ages.
Other award sponsors were Street Graffiti Solutions, CTM Media Group and Wish Twice Productions.
In collaboration with Toronto City Council, business owners and tenants have formed 78 BIAs across the city to maintain safety, enhance the look of their neighbourhoods and attract businesses to the area.
