Councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon invited to join Mayor Tory’s executive committee

"It’s an extreme honour. I’m looking forward to really having a bird’s eye view," she said during a recent interview.

"I’m happy to represent a strong female voice on the committee as well as a geographic perspective."

One of just four women on the 12-member committee and one of just two "downtown" councillors (Ward 18 - Davenport Councillor Ana Bailao is the other), McMahon said she intends to use her role on the executive committee to bring to the forefront issues that affect the downtown core and the east end, notably transit.

"We often feel isolated in the east end with transit and transit congestion," she said, adding that from the get-go one of Tory’s key priorities has been getting Toronto moving.

"I’m looking forward to making some real strides with that and some real strong action."

A member of Toronto City Council’s so-called "mushy middle", McMahon is one of just three new members of the executive committee. Nine members of the committee previously sat on former Mayor Rob Ford executive committee.

While several executive committee members serve as chairs of other city committees, McMahon doesn’t hold such a position. She’s hoping to serve as the vice-chair of the public works and infrastructure committee, which meets for the first time this term in January.

McMahon will also be sitting on the audit committee for a second term.
