Police investigating threatening graffiti found in washroom at Brampton high school

The graffiti was of a stick figure holding what appears to be a gun.
One or more students took pictures of the graffiti and posted them on social media, which sparked rumours and fear among students, according to Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board spokesperson Bruce Campbell.

The rumours of a possible threat of a shooting at the school came to the attention of the school board Wednesday night, and Peel regional police were called.
Police have said there is no danger to students or staff at the school, and classes are being held as usual on Thursday, April 20.
School liaison officers and detectives are at the Corporation Drive school today investigating the graffiti, and the school posted a bulletin to students, parents and guardians on its website this morning advising of the investigation.

“Rumours of a threat against our school have been circulating in our school community since yesterday,” the bulletin, written by principalRosina Ariganello, reads.
“I want to stress that we take threats of any kind very seriously, whether intended as pranks or otherwise, and work closely with police authorities to ensure student and staff safety. This includes prosecution to the full extent of the law.”

The social media posts prompted OPP officers to respond to a high school in Tottenham, also named St. Thomas Aquinas, to ensure there was no threat to the safety of that school. It was later confirmed the posts were all related to the Brampton school.
