Police have issued a public safety alert following a violent street robbery in North York early Sunday.
Toronto police said the victim was waiting for the bus near Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue when an unidentified man assaulted the victim with a weapon and demanded cash at 5:43 a.m.
"The man then hailed a Diamond Taxi cab and left the scene," police said in a Sunday night news release. "The victim suffered injuries and was treated at the scene."

The suspect is white, 40 to 50 years old, five-feet six-inches tall, 150 to 160 pounds with a slim build, facial scarring and brown and grey hair in a balding pattern. He was unshaven and was wearing a light olive windbreaker jacket with a beige trim, grey pants and black sneakers.
Police are asking property owners in the area to review their surveillance cameras and share with investigators any footage that may help identify the suspect.
