Three people were arrested by the Toronto Police Service following robberies at cellphone stores in Durham Region, York Region and Toronto.
The Toronto Police Hold Up Squad joined resources with the Durham Regional Police Service and began an investigation, Toronto police said.
Between Jan. 8 and Feb. 27, 11 cellphone stores were robbed in the three municipalities.
In each incident, two men would enter the store and approach employees, police alleged, adding the employees were threatened and assaulted while being ordered to open a safe where the phones were stored.
Several phones were taken before the thieves fled, sometimes in a stolen car, police said.
Investigators were able to identify and locate three suspects.
On Wednesday, March 2, police executed three search warrants at addresses in Toronto.
Police reportedly recovered cellphones taken during the robberies, along with keys from several stolen cars. Police also seized clothing believed to have been worn during some of the robberies, police added.
In one search warrant, a Toronto woman was arrested in connection with the recovered phones.
A 20-year-old Toronto man faces 50 charges, while a second Toronto man faces 38 charges. The woman faces two charges.
