Emery Collegiate Institute was well represented at this year’s Art of Physics competition.
According to Grade 11 physics teacher Klarida Ceco, the school’s grades 11 and 12 physics students have entered the competition every year since 2007 and this is the second time they have been honoured with prizes.
"Obviously, we are on cloud nine," she said. "It was a great boost of confidence for (the students). They saw that if you try and put in your best effort, you can win."

Nathaniel Andrade and Amir Haniff won first prize in the high school individual category for their photo, The Displacement Log, about the Archimedes’ principle. The log displaces a volume of water equal to the log’s volume.

Hira Jamal won second prize in the same category for his photo, Vibrating Speaker Illusion. The entry shows small plastic beads bouncing on a speaker playing loud music.
Amit Rambaran received an honourable mention for his photo, Glass Fireworks, that demonstrates how a sparkler firework is channeled in a standard drinking glass.

The competition was launched in 1992 by the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) to encourage interest in physics through captivating imagery.
