Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital has opened its new Concussion Clinic for children and youth suffering from persistent symptoms that impact their ability to participate in daily activities for more than four weeks.
The clinic, which opened July 2, is the first of its kind in Ontario.
"Our experience indicates that one month is a turning point for many children with concussions. If they are still having functional issues after four weeks, we start to see the situation worsen," physician director Dr. Peter Rumney said in a statement.

As expansion of existing acquired brain injury services at Holland Bloorview, northeast of Bayview and Eglinton avenues, the clinic offers a multi-disciplinary approach that brings together health care providers from neurology, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and social work.
Research indicates as many as 36,000 children and youth playing minor hockey in Ontario suffer concussions every years.
Head injuries acquired from other sports and falls are also causes of concussion.
Holland Bloorview also offers free concussion education and information sessions for parents and kids interested in learning to recognize the signs of concussion and manage symptoms.
