Police continue to investigate after a city worker found the remains of a baby in a water main at a North York park Monday, June 23.
Police said the worker was cleaning the sewer drain and filtration system as part of scheduled maintenance at Heathrow Park near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue when the "lower half of an infant" was discovered around 9:20 a.m.
"It was last cleaned approximately two weeks ago, so it happened over a period of two weeks," Det. Nick Nei told reporters at the scene.

The gender and exact age of the newborn aren’t yet known. Nor do police know the spot where the body was originally placed.
"The creek starts all the way up at Exbury (Road) and ends at Wilson Avenue," said Nei, of 31 Division. "All the pipes and the sewage system come towards here, and it’s the main drain that washes down from storm drains."
York Regional Police’s canine unit was helping with the search for other body parts.
Investigators are awaiting the findings of a forensic pathologist’s examination of the remains.
