Man charged with New Year's Day knifepoint holdup in East York

Police say that a man entered the kiosk posing as a customer, and approached the counter as though he were going to pay for an item.

Instead, he produced a large kitchen knife and demanded cash. The victim complied and the suspect fled the gas station.

Hold-Up Squad investigators used security camera video from a nearby building, and police say that was used to identify the accused. Officers from Hold-Up and 54 Division Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant at the accused’s home, and on Thursday Jan. 26 he was charged.

Trey Tynes-Dempsey, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with robbery with a weapon and weapons dangerous.
