Perth Avenue P.S.’s field of dreams is complete and will be unveiled during a ceremony, Thursday, Dec. 4.
Following three years of planning and work, including financial contributions from community partners, the elementary school in the Bloor Street West and Dundas Street area is hosting a celebratory event.
The schoolyard project boasts a new running track and additional green space as well as improved play areas for the students at both Perth Avenue and St. Luigi Catholic School. The ceremony takes place at Perth P.S., 14 Ruskin Ave., at 2 p.m.

The playground redevelopment project was one of four charities to receive a $50,000 grant from MLSE’s online competition. The MLSE received more than 70 submissions and more than 225,000 online votes were cast during two public voting phases over a two-month period.
Perth Public School is bordered by train tracks, which makes it difficult for its students to access other community recreation centres. This is just one of the reasons this playground rejuvenation is so crucial, says the redevelopment committee.
Davenport Councillor Ana Bailao’s second annual community barbecue raised $55,000 toward transforming the elementary school’s yard from its former patch of bare asphalt into a four-lane rubber running track and soccer pitch.
Community partners included Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment’s (MLSE) Team Up Foundation, Castlepoint Numa, Sobey’s/Earth Day Canada Community Environment Fund, Toronto Dominion Friends of the Environment Foundation, Tree Canada, Toyota Evergreen and the City of Toronto.
