Leslieville’s Project Gallery is taking cue from the circa 1667 Salon exhibition style for its latest show, Deck the Walls.
The exhibition, which will feature works by dozens of emerging and mid-career artists, runs from Dec. 6 to 31.
An opening reception for Deck the Walls will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Project Gallery, 1109 Queen St. E., just east of Pape Avenue, while a festive reception is set for Thursday, Dec. 11 from 6 to 10 p.m., also at the gallery.

Deck the Walls is Project Gallery’s second large-format salon-style exhibition of contemporary artworks.
During Deck the Walls, the 1,000-square-foot gallery will be filled with 500 pieces from a range of mediums and styles all measuring 12" by 12" or smaller. All of the pieces in the show are also available for purchasing.
"This is an opportunity for us to be really able to fill the gallery with so much art," said Devan Patel, Project Gallery’s co-owner and co-director, during a recent interview.
"It’s quite a spectacle. There’s something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate."

The historic Salon exhibition style was established in 1667 in France by the Academie des Beaux-Arts and held in the Louvre. Created to accommodate the vast quantity of work submitted by the students of the Academie, works of art were displayed from floor to ceiling with little space separating frames. This style has since been replicated in museums and galleries, including the Art Gallery of Ontario’s European collection.
