When gravy-train-fighting Mayor Rob Ford came into his office for the first time in December, he and his staff found little presents from his predecessor David Miller: gravy, in tiny packages, hidden throughout all the offices.
The Ford administration spent the next few weeks wearing brittle grins as they got rid of the gravy at city hall – one package at a time.
For the past month, John Tory has been wondering just what prank Rob Ford’s staff would play on him and his staff as they assumed office Dec. 1.
And early Monday morning, Tory and his staff found out.
"I thought it could be worse," said Tory afterward. "When they said they were going to prank me, I figured, well…"
In the end, the Fords left the office stripped down of all contents, except for one thing: a vintage poster, of a smartly-dressed woman on public transit, captioned "The Subway is the best way…today, Everyday."
Ford and his brother, councillor and failed mayoral candidate, had campaigned heavily on building subways in place of light rail.
The poster was signed, "John, Best Wishes!! Rob Ford."
