The second annual Spirit of the Season holiday concert is set to take place in Leslieville on Sunday, Dec. 21.
This year’s event will feature a presentation of the one-act opera Amahl and The Night Visitors featuring music and libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti followed by a concert featuring holiday favourites, a jazz ensemble, and solo performances by several cast members.
The opera, which features a cast of celebrated singers including Denise Williams, Erin Armstrong, Mikhail Bukhman, Mark Rainey, Norman Brown, Janaka Welihinda and Lawrence Cotton and led by renowned music director William Shookhoff, tells the story of a poor widow and her spirited son, Amahl, who receive an astonishing visit from three Kings looking for shelter as they cross the desert following a marvelous star.

Presented by No Strings Theatre in association with the Toronto Onyx Lions Club, the event will be held at 3 and 7:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, 875 Queen St. E. at Logan Avenue. Doors will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. for socializing.
No Strings Theatre is a registered charitable organization that provides professional-level music theatre training for youth ages 13 to 21.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 for seniors./students and children. A $50 package usable for two adults and two children is also available.
