Construction work to redesign the Gerrard-Fairford intersection is set to begin on Monday, July 7.
The work, which is expected to last until September 5, will take place along Fairford Avenue from Coxwell Avenue to Woodfield Road and at the intersection of Fairford Avenue at Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street East.
The overall goal of the work, which is part of the 2014 Capital Works Program, is to improve traffic operations and pedestrian safety.
The improvements will include removing the south leg of Fairford Avenue at Coxwell Avenue and replacing it with a new parkette featuring pedestrian lighting, trees and shrubs as well as benches.
The work will also involve reconstructing Fairford Avenue from Coxwell Avenue to 15 metres east of Rhodes Avenue to allow for access to both Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street East.
Curb bump outs, which will involve widening the sidewalks and resurfacing, will also be built at the intersections of Woodfield, Hiawatha and Craven roads, and at Ashdale and Rhodes avenues.
Sidewalk reconstruction work is also set to be done in front of properties on both sides of Fairford Avenue between Coxwell and Rhodes avenues as well as at the intersections of Woodfield, Hiawatha and Craven roads and at Ashdale Avenue.
Work is set to be done between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday as well as after hours and on weekends as needed.
Area residents should expect noise and some temporary inconveniences as well as pedestrian and traffic restrictions including partial lane closures along Fairford Avenue as well as the closure of Fairford Avenue between Coxwell and Rhodes avenues. Local traffic will be re-routed to Gerrard Street East during this period.
The construction work will also likely impact parking and may require the temporary closure of some private driveways.
Property owners are advised to remove any privately owned items from the boulevard. The City of Toronto will not be held responsible for damage to any privately owned items on their property.
Garbage and recycling collection will be maintained throughout the construction work.
