While power has been restored to thousands of homes and businesses following Monday, Nov. 24’s wind storm, it could take until the end of the day today before the lights are on for all customers, Toronto Hydro says.
Crews are working around the clock to restore power, an automated message from the utility Tuesday morning said.
As of 8 a.m., there are still about 4,000 customers in Toronto, particularly in Etobicoke, York, Leaside, the Beach and parts of Scarborough, without power.
That is down from about 10,000 on Monday at 8 p.m.
Winds gusting to as much as 100 kilometres per hour caused damage, including broken windows, uprooted trees and toppled utility poles, and flying debris across Toronto and southern Ontario Monday night.
There are no reports of serious injuries in Toronto as a result of the storm.
At its peak, Ontario Hydro reported 400 outages affecting 87,000 customers.
There are still about 67,000 customers across the province without power.
Toronto Fire Services responded to at least 50 calls of hydro wires down across the city.
Bay Street between Joseph and Charles streets was closed Monday night when metal debris from a building blew on to the road.
The wind also caused flights at Pearson International Airport to be delayed or cancelled.
